Discover BSTRD ceramic grills at North Barbeque. Designed for serious outdoor cooking, BSTRD combines premium ceramic construction, precise temperature control and distinctive contemporary styling with the versatility of traditional kamado cooking.

From high-temperature steak searing and pizza cooking to roasting, smoking and overnight low-and-slow barbecue, a BSTRD gives you an incredibly versatile charcoal cooking system.

Here are 15 of the most frequently asked questions about BSTRD ceramic grills.

1. What is a BSTRD ceramic grill?

A BSTRD is a premium ceramic kamado charcoal grill designed to provide exceptional heat retention, temperature control and cooking versatility.

The thick ceramic construction stores heat while carefully controlled airflow through the grill allows you to manage the cooking temperature. This means one BSTRD can be used for everything from extremely hot direct grilling to long, low-temperature smoking.

2. Why should I choose a BSTRD ceramic grill?

BSTRD combines traditional ceramic kamado cooking principles with modern engineering and distinctive contemporary design.

Excellent insulation and controlled airflow provide impressive temperature stability and charcoal efficiency, while the versatile cooking system allows you to grill, sear, roast, smoke, bake and cook pizza using one outdoor cooker.

For anyone building a premium outdoor cooking area, a BSTRD can become the centrepiece rather than simply another barbecue.

3. What is the difference between BSTRD CORE and BSTRD PRO?

BSTRD CORE is designed to deliver dependable ceramic cooking performance with straightforward operation, excellent temperature stability and the versatility expected from a premium kamado.

BSTRD PRO takes the concept further with additional engineering and features aimed at enthusiastic and experienced outdoor cooks. Features include enhanced airflow management, premium-grade ceramics, a modular cooking system and the Dynamic Twist Deflector for quickly changing between direct and indirect cooking.

If you're unsure which version is best for you, speak to the North Barbeque team and we can help you compare the different options.

4. What sizes of BSTRD ceramic grill are available?

The BSTRD range includes different configurations to suit everything from smaller outdoor spaces to large gardens, entertaining areas and outdoor kitchens.

The BSTRD Compact provides genuine ceramic kamado cooking in a smaller format, while the Large models provide substantially more cooking space for entertaining and larger cooks.

BSTRD Large models provide approximately 49cm of grill space, offering enough room for large joints, multiple dishes and even up to five whole chickens depending on your cooking arrangement.

5. Can a BSTRD be installed in an outdoor kitchen?

Yes. Solo versions are particularly suitable for customers who want to incorporate a BSTRD into a purpose-built outdoor kitchen or cooking station.

Instead of purchasing the complete freestanding configuration with cart and shelves, the Solo gives you the ceramic cooking unit ready to be incorporated into an appropriately designed installation.

North Barbeque can help you identify the correct BSTRD configuration for your planned outdoor cooking area.

6. What can I cook on a BSTRD?

Almost anything you would normally cook in your indoor kitchen can potentially be cooked outdoors on a BSTRD.

BSTRD identifies ten different cooking styles: searing, grilling, roasting, low-and-slow cooking, rotisserie cooking, pan cooking, baking, smoking, dirty cooking and pizza.

That means you can cook steaks, burgers, chicken, ribs, brisket, pulled pork, lamb, fish, seafood and vegetables as well as bread, desserts and pizzas. It is this versatility that makes ceramic kamado cooking so enjoyable.

7. Is a BSTRD good for low-and-slow BBQ?

Yes. This is one of the major advantages of ceramic cooking.

Once the BSTRD reaches your desired temperature, its ceramic body and controlled airflow help maintain stable heat for extended cooking sessions.

Add suitable smoking wood to your charcoal and you can prepare classic low-and-slow dishes such as beef brisket, pulled pork, ribs, beef short ribs and smoked chicken.

8. Can I cook pizza on a BSTRD?

Absolutely.

The excellent heat retention of the ceramic body allows a BSTRD to reach the high cooking temperatures required for pizza.

With the appropriate heat-deflection and pizza-cooking setup, the ceramic dome stores and radiates heat around the pizza, helping you achieve a crisp base and properly cooked toppings.

A BSTRD can therefore serve as your BBQ, smoker, outdoor oven and pizza cooker.

9. How easy is it to control the temperature?

Temperature is controlled primarily by adjusting airflow through the upper and lower vents.

More airflow increases the intensity of the charcoal fire, while reducing airflow lowers and stabilises the temperature.

BSTRD has placed considerable emphasis on airflow management. The PRO models add enhanced temperature-control features designed to make switching between different cooking methods particularly straightforward.

Once you've completed a few cooks and understand how the vents respond, controlling a ceramic grill becomes surprisingly intuitive.

10. Is a BSTRD fuel efficient?

Yes. Ceramic kamados are extremely efficient at retaining heat.

Rather than continually losing heat through thin metal walls, the ceramic body absorbs and retains thermal energy. Once the grill has reached the desired temperature, relatively little airflow and charcoal may be required to maintain it.

At the end of your cook, closing the vents cuts the oxygen supply to the fire. Remaining usable charcoal can then often be retained for your next cooking session.

11. What charcoal should I use in a BSTRD?

Good-quality lumpwood charcoal is the preferred choice for ceramic kamado cooking.

Quality charcoal provides excellent heat, relatively clean combustion and the authentic charcoal flavour associated with live-fire cooking.

Avoid using inappropriate fuels or chemical products inside the ceramic grill. Always follow the current BSTRD guidance regarding suitable charcoal and lighting methods.

North Barbeque can also advise you on charcoal suitable for grilling, high-temperature cooking and longer smoking sessions.

12. What accessories are available for BSTRD ceramic grills?

A range of BSTRD accessories allows you to expand the capabilities of your grill.

Depending on your BSTRD model, accessories can include cooking grills, griddles, rain covers, heat-management components, tools and other cooking accessories.

Choosing the right accessories allows you to create different cooking zones and move easily between direct grilling, indirect roasting, smoking, baking and other cooking techniques.

Ask North Barbeque about the best accessories for the particular BSTRD model you're considering.

13. How do I clean and maintain a BSTRD?

Routine maintenance is relatively simple.

Remove accumulated ash regularly so that airflow through the charcoal area remains unrestricted and clean the cooking surfaces after use.

The ceramic interior should not be treated like a conventional metal barbecue. Avoid chemical-based cleaners on the internal ceramics and gasket and follow the manufacturer's care instructions.

If a BSTRD has not been used for an extended period, it should also be brought up to temperature gradually to allow any accumulated moisture within the ceramic components to evaporate safely.

14. What warranty comes with a BSTRD ceramic grill?

BSTRD currently provides a 20-year warranty on the ceramics of its kamado grills, subject to its warranty terms and conditions.

BSTRD advises owners to register their grill following purchase to activate the applicable warranty, so we recommend completing the registration process promptly and retaining your proof of purchase.

For complete warranty information covering ceramic and non-ceramic components, always refer to the warranty terms applicable to your particular BSTRD model at the time of purchase.

When purchasing through North Barbeque, our team can also help with product information and after-sales support.
